Cape Five’s dedicated team is eagerly anticipating the opportunities that lie ahead in both new and established markets for blueberries. According to the annual report from BerriesZA, the Netherlands emerged as the largest importer of South African blueberries in the previous year, with imports reaching just under 13,900 tons. Following behind was the United Kingdom, with 6,600 tons imported. In addition to these, Spain, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, and Malaysia are experiencing significant growth in their demand for South African blueberries.
The year 2023 is poised for remarkable growth, with South Africa projecting the export of 25,000 tons of blueberries – a remarkable 23% increase from the previous year. This surge in production can be attributed to the high demand for South Africa’s blueberries abroad. Fertile soils and a moderate climate, which provide an ideal environment for blueberry cultivation has positioned South African blueberries in the market.
