A quick update on the recent Cape Town Storm:
Over the first weekend in April a cut-off low-pressure system hit parts of the Western Cape. With winds gusting over 100km/h and 100mm of rain predicted, there was a concern for our suppliers who have not yet harvested their apples.
Although several areas within the Western Cape were severely hit, luckily the storm was not as severe in all fruit growing areas. Despite fallen apples – Grannies and Pink Ladies mostly – the brunt of the storm didn’t reach Ceres and the Elgin, Grabouw, Vyeboom and Villiersdorp areas. The Helderberg basin, Stellenbosch and Overberg areas seemed to have sustained the worst of the damage.
Our thoughts are with those who have been affected.
