Nelson Mandela Bay finally received some much-needed rain at the weekend, but the inflow into the dams will only be visible within the next day or two.
According to stats supplied by spokesperson of the local SAWS branch, Garth Sampson, the catchment areas received rain varying between 10mm and 60mm, with Misgund yielding 63mm. Only 10mm was recorded at the airport, with 23mm at Chatty and 20mm at 3rd Avenue Dip. Other towns received rain that lead to localised flooding, with inaccessible roads outside Kirkwood and heavy falls over the Langkloof. Sampson added that with the rain came damaging hail, which affected especially apple crops in the Langkloof.
“Although inflow into dams will only be realised within a day or two, we are not expecting massive inflow,” Sampson said. “Besides a few showers today (March 6) and tomorrow evening, it will be a relatively dry week in the Bay,” he added.
